Previous Parisian Putney ⛔️

Next Twenty third book of the year. Diving into this Star Wars Legacy series for the first time in all my fever before #TheLastJedi! All set after Return of the Jedi these books take me back to the alternate timeline that I was so fascinated by as a kid, I was always so interested in what happens next, trying to read as many of the comics and skimming these bigger books (which it references so much) in the library as a kid to read nuggets of information. Written before the prequel films came out these books really are a time capsule of that Star Wars universe when it was just the original trilogy, it makes the descriptions of places Coruscant and the Imperial Palace all the more interesting. I want to try and get through all three to compare to TLJ next month! 📚

Twelfth book of the year. A short break from Doctor Who books after two friends were raving about this book, apparently this book completely passed me by as a teen, I hadn’t heard of it at all until the short preview teaser for the film adaptation was released. The concept of travelling cities on tracks roaming the earth, with the beast that is London taking centre stage in this story was enough for me, throw in some spies and lots of London’s history being played with. I totally forgot throughout reading that it was a children’s book, it was such a gripping and fun read. Maybe I just need to read more children’s fiction, especially when it’s written in such a way that doesn’t patronise the target audience. I really loved this, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being my favourite read of 2018. Will try and catch a few of the other books in the range after that ending too! In contrast, I rewarded myself by watching the full trailer for the film after I finished reading, and it reaaally didn’t do it for me. 📚

Eleventh book of the year. Another in my continuing series of ‘reading Doctor Who stories I know nothing about’ and this one was a treat! I knew nothing at all about The Savages, other then Steven leaving rather abruptly at the end. Going blind into this story I wasn’t sure what to expect at all, I had no idea of when or where the story was set and so the excitement of an opener where they’ve met such an advanced civilisation, and where the people know about the Doctor in advance was a great start! The Savages feels like a classic Doctor Who tale, with its subversion of the tribes contained within, particularly in this era of stories about Thals and Drahvins, and at various points I think it’s obvious where the story is going but it’s still thoroughly entertaining to let it pan out. After the energy transfer, I particularly enjoyed another character becoming the Doctor for a period, I can’t help but wonder (pure speculation) so near to the end of Bill Hartnell’s run that they were playing with some options before they came up with regeneration. I really enjoyed The Savages, way more then I thought I would, a perfect example of reading a Target novel before seeing the episode and loving my own interpretation of the visuals and characters, but I’ve left myself with not wanting to see the episode (if it’s ever found) because it’s quite wonderful in my mind. 📚
